Experience from Experience

“I came to win, to fight,
 to conquer, to thrive
I came to win, to survive,
to prosper, to rise, to fly”

These phrases came from a famous pop song of Nicki Minaj that can relate to anyone who aims to surpass difficulties and hurdles. Now, this was the song which my brain played after North Fairview High School unexpectedly won the recent District II-B Secondary Schools Press Conference held in Mater Carmelli School, Novaliches, Quezon City.

We came to win …

Winning is not an option to us, it is a must. We have no other goals than to win and continue the legacy of the previous fellow journalists who have successfully wrote the school’s name on shiny plaques and golden trophies. It is such a great honor to represent the whole campus and to compete for its right to be recognized but it is a big burden on our shoulders on how we could sustain such great history of our campus journalism. We came, not just to pass other schools, but we came to win.

to fight, to conquer, to thrive …

As we entered the Mater Carmelli, we held all our heads up, hoping to achieve what we came for. Honor and reputation is what we’re fighting for. We made our hearts as our only weapons to win this war. The hearts of which shouted for victory. We have to conquer everything to prove that we are indeed worthy of the trust and patience that our dear adviser gave us. We have to surpass not just the opponents, but our own selves, from the weaknesses up to the raging emotions that might stop us. But the hardest part of all is to thrive all the way to success. We may have the guts to win, the courage to attack, but to keep in the track could have been a shame. The beginning may not be easy, but the ending would be easy. Yet, if we stopped in the beginning, we can never achieve what we cherishing now. As to fight is to conquer to thrive.

We came to win, to survive …

One must eat challenges in order to survive. This is a quote from our Journalism adviser who have shaped us from dirty rocks into shiny gems which are about to show its precious side sooner. There is no straight and smooth path to success, one has to go under rough roads and slippery ways before reaching its destination but it doesn’t mean no one can achieve it. From that day our hearts were filled with the enthusiasm and dream of winning we know that we can get through this together. More challenges are yet to come but we have to survive.

to prosper, to rise, to fly …

As we came to get back on the throne, we also put in mind that we need to show everyone that our batch can also be remembered as one of the most prosperous one. The batch such schools and succeeding years will get inspiration from. An inspiration that we know we can rise above using our own pens and papers, so far it didn’t fail us and we will keep that as we fly towards the dreams of each one of us. And that is, winning the Nationals.

The press conference of Journalism has taught us something we can never learn just by reading books or writing literary pieces. It taught us the gift of experience. Every one of us joins contests and wins individually, but in Journalism, it’s not just about who wrote what or who win what, in the end, it’s about what we could do for our school as a gratitude for the experiences that they shared us, the feelings of being united, the feelings of being honored, and the feelings of expressing our hearts for this world.

Writing from the heart ( A blog for writers)

"To write is to express ... "

Most writers probably agree with this quotation, we have different types of writers, from the ones who use simple words but to those complicated ones, the one who informs, the one who entertains, the one who persuades and the one who criticizes. They might have different purposes but all of them are united with the thought of expressing oneself through wide play of words.

I live in a world wherein writing is the main star of the show. All my fellow friends are good in writing their thoughts about a certain topic. They are campus journalists. They are students but neophytes in different aspects of writing. It's like they have been through adulthood whenever they write a word. I also have friends who could write short stories which anyone who reads their works would be so thrilled and the passion is really obvious through the experiences being brought out.

They say that one should be that smart to write a piece. I believe that it doesn't matter whether your grammar sucks a bit, or your spelling gets out the way or your penmanship is like the chicken's feet, it takes a real passion and heart for writing. If you're honest and you love expressing, your work will show it's own heart from the passion you are possessing.

If you are the kind of writer who competes like my friends, never let goals eat your head. Writing is never meant for competing. We write to express not to win anything. Those who write non fiction stories, they write because they want to share people what they feel or what should we feel. Those who write journalistic articles, they write to let people know what the world does, not to let the world know what they do.

We learn to write letters, we learn to arrange ideas and we learn to format the whole writings. But, an ardent writer can always make you learn. He or she can always find a way to touch our hearts, it's not because he is genius or she is good in punning, but he can always write what is genuine to what he feels in his experiences. That's what I call, writing from the heart.

I have already experience such emotions, empowering all my senses, possessing my hands to hold a pen and write my thoughts. One mustn't use the brain actually, the deep words or the great sentences, it's all what one really means and that's what connects our words, our writings into people's hearts and minds.

Welcome Back, after one year!
